How the MEMA Safe Room Grant Works
Lottery Application
Applications open October 31 - November 30, 2025. MEMA selects 38 winners per county through a lottery system.
01Up to $3,500 Reimbursement
MEMA reimburses 75% of your safe room cost, up to $3,500 maximum, after installation and inspection.

How It Works When You're Selected
Step 1: You Get Selected in the Lottery
After the November 30 application period ends, MEMA holds a lottery. If selected, you'll receive an email to continue your application.
01Step 2: You Call KS Digging for a Quote
Contact us immediately. We'll visit your property, assess the best location, and provide an exact quote with engineer-sealed blueprints.
02Step 3: You Complete Your MEMA Application
Submit your full application to MEMA with our blueprints and documentation. Wait for your official approval letter.
03Step 4: We Install Your Safe Room
Once approved, we schedule installation (typically 1-2 days). You pay us upfront per MEMA requirements.
04Step 5: MEMA Inspects & You Get Reimbursed
MEMA inspects the safe room. Once approved, you submit reimbursement paperwork and receive up to $3,500 within 60 days.

When can I apply for the MEMA safe room grant?
Applications open October 31, 2025 and close November 30, 2025. Apply online at my.msema.org during this window.
How are grant recipients selected?
MEMA uses a lottery system. Each county gets 38 selections. All eligible applicants have an equal chance regardless of when they apply during the application period.
Can I use any contractor for installation?
You must use a licensed Mississippi contractor. Self-installation is not allowed. K&S Digging is licensed and experienced with MEMA-approved installations.
Do I need to wait for approval before installing?
YES. Do not install your safe room until you receive your official MEMA approval letter. Installing early will disqualify you from reimbursement.
How long do I have to install after approval?
You have 90 days from your approval date to complete installation. Contact us immediately after selection so we can get you scheduled.
When will I get reimbursed?
After installation, MEMA inspects the safe room. Once you submit all required documentation, reimbursement typically arrives within 60 days.
